The day before yesterday it was really wet so our plans were put off for cooking over the fire. That gave me, Evan, the opportunity to cook a curry. Not for five people or six, seven or eight but for nine people.
It took me one day to plan and shop and four hours to cook. I made a pork Rogan Josh which was pretty hot so I made a tamarind raita, the best tasting naans and some basmati rice, four things in four hours.
To make the curry I had to make a paste that had 4 teaspoons of corriander seeds and the same of cumin seeds, 2 teaspoons of paprika, a bunch of corriander stalks, two red chillies with seeds, 4 tablespoons of tomato puree. I had to toast the seeds then grind them in the pestle and mortar. The paste was red.
I was so proud of myself, so we’re mum and dad. John was gobsmacked by my naans and Emma could not have enough of the raita. Perran loved it so much he ate till he felt sick!!! I think everyone else liked it.
At the end of the day I was sooooo tired.
Here is an easy Indian recipe : Tamarind Raita
12 tablespoons of yogurt
4 teaspoons of Tamarind Paste
A large handful of corriander
Salt & Pepper to taste
METHOD
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and keep in the fridge until ready to eat with curry and naan.

Evan – Your curry looks super. It’s really hard to make a curry look as good as it tastes and obviously everyone enjoyed it (except, possibly, Piran!). Do you have to do your own washing up? Our children took it in turn until we discovered that the cook would sometimes leave an extra mess for the washer-up, so after that everyone had to do their own clearing up. We had 5 kids at home, so they made an evening meal each weekday.
